“Quem é você?”, perguntou a Lagarta. Não era uma maneira encorajadora de iniciar uma conversa. Alice retrucou, bastante timidamente: “Eu — eu não sei muito bem, Senhora, no presente momento — pelo menos eu sei quem eu era quando levantei esta manhã, mas acho que tenho mudado muitas vezes desde então. "O que você quer dizer com isso?”, perguntou a Lagarta severamente. “Explique-se!” “Eu não posso explicar-me, eu receio, Senhora”, respondeu Alice, “porque eu não sou eu mesma, vê?” “Eu não vejo”, retomou a Lagarta. “Eu receio que não posso colocar isso mais claramente”, Alice replicou bem polidamente, “porque eu mesma não consigo entender, para começo de conversa, e ter tantos tamanhos diferentes em um dia é muito confuso.” “Não é”, discordou a Lagarta. “Bem, talvez você não ache isso ainda”, Alice afirmou, “mas quando você transformar-se em uma crisálida — você irá algum dia, sabe — e então depois disso em uma borboleta, eu acredito que você irá sentir-se um pouco estranha, não irá?” “Nem um pouco”, disse a Lagarta. “Bem, talvez seus sentimentos possam ser diferentes”, finalizou Alice, “tudo o que eu sei é: é muito estranho para mim.” (Lewis Carroll)
